Trauma Informed Interventions

Trauma Informed Interventions

Hartford Knights Youth Organization (HKYO) Trauma Informed Interventions are an organizational framework that recognizes students of all ages may experience many different types of trauma in their lives, especially youth that reside in high poverty concentrated neighborhoods. As a result, HKYO provides after school support in alignment with Connecticut Department of Education's Science Research Intervention.

Important Elements:

  1. A school wide or district wide comprehensive system of social-emotional learning and behavioral support.
  2. The use of research-based, effective trauma informed strategies across a variety of academic domains.
  3. Differentiation of support for learners performing below grade level expectations and/or suspended or expelled from school.
  4. Early intervention for students experiencing academic and/or behavioral difficulties to prevent the development of more serious educational issues later on throughout the school year.
